Susan Beil Connally, Artistic Director since 1987, graduated from Boston Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. She has choreographed numerous one and two-act ballets for SA Met Ballet, including The Snow Queen, Fairy Tale Garden, A Soldier's Tale, Peter and the Wolf, Hansel and Gretel, and La Boutique Fantasque. Mrs. Connally is Artistic Director and principal teacher for Connally's Dance Workshop, Inc., founded in 1976. She has performed in and choreographed more than 40 musicals, as well as 36 years of productions for Connally's Dance Workshop, Inc. She also served for eight years as rehearsal assistant for Ballet West's production of The Nutcracker in San Antonio. Mrs. Connally has choreographed operas for the San Antonio Symphony and Lyric Opera of San Antonio. Mrs. Connally served as the Membership Chairman, Treasurer and President of Regional Dance America/Southwest from 1996-2008 and was the recipient of the prestigious Stream Award for artistic excellence in 2000. In 2007, Mrs. Connally served as the Local Ballet Mistress for the Royal Ballet's production of The Sleeping Beauty for the company's US tour. Mrs. Connally currently serves as the Local Ballet Mistress for the ARTS San Antonio collaboration with Mejia Ballet International's version of The Nutcracker.
Karin L. Heiden, Associate Director and Administrator for San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet since 2004, received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the Boston Conservatory of Music in 1996. Karin performed with the BCM Hoofers and Mizery & Co. (Boston), the Peggy Spina Tap Co. (NYC) and has worked on the creative team of the Goodman Theatre (Chicago) and the Carver Community Cultural Center (Texas). She served as San Antonio's local Ballet Mistress for Moscow Ballet's Nutcracker (1999) and Production Assistant for the Royal Ballet's production of The Sleeping Beauty for their 2007 US tour. Mrs. Heiden earned a scholarship to the Regional Dance America Craft of Choreography Conference for her choreographic work, Dayful of Song, chosen to be performed at the RDA National Festival in Pittsburgh, PA, April, 2007. Karin's ballet, For Those Left Behind, described by the San Antonio Express News as "densely layered, colorful and amazingly touching ballet" premiered at the RDA/SW Festival in April, 2008. Karin's work, Path to Enlightenment, was chosen to be performed in Montreal, Canada for the Regional Dance America National Festival, May, 2012. As a dance instructor since 1991, Karin has been a faculty member of Connally's Dance Workshop, Inc., SA Met Ballet, North East School of the Arts at Lee High School and Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center. Karin was recently chosen to be the RDA/SW IBC Project Assistant to Paul Mejia for the 2014 USA International Ballet Competition RDA Performance in Jackson, Mississippi. In March, Mrs. Heiden was elected in 2014 to serve as President of Regional Dance America/SW. She is currently in her third term and working with the National Board to plan the RDA National Festival in Phoenix, May 2017.
We've been happy to provide high quality training and performance opportunities for the talented youth of San Antonio for the past 32 years. We have also loved exposing thousands of children to the wonders of theater and dance through our Educational Outreach Programs.
